Young children learn best by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, both indoors and outdoors.  This play based approach forms the basis of the Early Years Foundation Stage.  The EYFS Framework outlines how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy and continuous development.

Healthy Smiles at Ashfield Nursery

Extra Curriculum

At Ashfield Nursery, we are committed to promoting lifelong healthy habits, and that includes looking after our children’s smiles! We have introduced a daily tooth brushing initiative in our main nursery to help instil the importance of good oral hygiene from an early age.

Children are provided with their own toothbrush, and every day after lunch, we brush our teeth together as part of our routine. This simple yet powerful practice helps children develop good brushing habits, understand the importance of oral health, and gain independence in self-care.

Why is tooth brushing so important?

Good oral hygiene from an early age plays a vital role in preventing tooth decay and ensuring healthy teeth and gums as children grow. Establishing these habits now can lead to a lifetime of strong, healthy smiles. Regular tooth brushing not only protects against cavities but also supports overall health, speech development, and self-confidence.

By making tooth brushing a fun and engaging part of the nursery day, we are helping children develop the skills and knowledge they need to care for their teeth—both now and in the future.

At Ashfield Nursery, we believe that small daily habits can make a big difference. Together, we are giving our children the best start towards a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles!
